Canker sore care ...

A canker sore (also called a mouth ulcer) is a small open sore in the lining of the mouth. Canker sores are not contagious, but they seem to be more prevalent in women, teens and young adults. It's speculated that sores can be triggered by a poor diet, food allergies or stress. To keep the pain of a canker sore to a minimum, you should avoid acidic, salty and spicy foods. Without any treatment, the sore should resolve in 1 to 3 weeks. Applying a small paste of baking soda and water to the sore may be helpful. If the annoying pain intensifies, you can try ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Oral anesthetics are also available for application directly on the sore to provide temporary relief from the pain.
