Dealing with a cold sore?

Dealing with a cold sore?

Cold sores appear as small, fluid-filled blisters that can cause a lot of discomfort. The sores commonly form on the lips, mouth, or nose and are triggered by a virus. Although they can be annoying and very painful, most usually only last a few days. Unlike the majority of viral infections, the cold sore virus is not completely eliminated by the body’s defenses. Consequently, cold sores often recur, especially if your immune system is weakened. You can ease the pain by taking ibuprofen or acetaminophen, applying ice to the blisters, and avoiding high-acid foods like orange juice or tomatoes. Avoid picking or squeezing the blisters as this can prolong the healing process and increase the chances of transferring the infection to others. Left alone, most cold sores will heal within 7 to 10 days. You have an active contagious viral infection, so as your cold sore is healing, wash your hands frequently, especially if you’ve touched your face, and don’t share cups or utensils with anyone.
