A new perspective on your scalp

A new perspective on your scalp

Try looking at your scalp as an extension of your facial skin. If considered from this perspective you may treat it with more of the care and attention that you devote to your face. The scalp requires proper treatment to maintain an optimal environment that promotes healthy strong hair. Similar to facial skin, the scalp is susceptible to everything we come into daily contact with - toxins, air pollutants, chlorine and sunlight can affect the scalp skin and cause thinning hair and irritation to occur. Maintain a clean scalp by washing, bearing in mind that the frequency should be dictated by your hair type – the oilier, the more often. Also, selecting products for cleaning, conditioning and styling can be a challenge since many of these products contain harsh ingredients that can damage the hair and create build-up on the scalp. In some cases, build-up can clog the hair follicle and trigger an infection. The presence of dandruff can further exacerbate the condition of your scalp, however, dual purpose moisturizing anti-dandruff shampoos and conditioners containing pyrithione zinc are a simple and effective solution to keep the flaking under control. Pyrithione zinc has an antifungal effect that can eliminate the responsible microorganism and control the rate of shedding.
