What are skin tags?

What are skin tags?

Many people develop small flesh-colored or slightly darker extra bits of skin, called skin tags, on their body. They can range in size from one millimeter to one centimeter. These growths are most commonly found in the armpits, genital area or on the neck. Skin tags are completely benign, but they can be annoying, especially when they rub against clothing or if you feel they affect your appearance. The good news is that removing them is relatively simple and the process involves cauterization (burning), cryosurgery (freezing), ligation (by cutting blood supply) or excision (with a scalpel or scissors). Because the procedure is considered minor surgery, it needs to be performed by a doctor.
