Latex allergies

Latex allergies

For Halloween, you'll want to stay away from latex masks if you have sensitive skin or an allergy to latex. Try hypoallergenic face makeup instead. Latex allergy is difficult to diagnose, but some of the symptoms include skin irritation (redness, itching, rash, hives or welts), eye or nose irritation, coughing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and the most severe reaction is anaphylaxis (shock). Latex allergy symptoms can range from mild to severe; they usually occur within minutes of exposure, but they can be delayed for several hours. Anaphylaxis is a severe and life threatening allergic reaction and the signs can include a dangerous drop in blood pressure, vomiting, cramps, breathing difficulties, swelling of the throat, tongue and nose, and loss of consciousness. Emergency medical attention is required at the first sign of an anaphylactic reaction.
