Conserve water by washing only full loads. Laundering several small loads wastes water and energy. Over the course of one year, an average family that washes only full loads of clothing can save up to 2,000 litres of water every month! Select an appropriate water level setting that corresponds to the size of your load. Choosing a cold water laundry detergent will further reduce energy consumption. Also, consider replacing your old washer with a high-efficiency unit that provides the same or even improved cleaning capabilities, but uses much less water. If you’re prone to skin allergies, try sensitive skin formulations or reduce the amount of detergent used. For even more energy savings, hang your clothes outside to air-dry. Once the clothes reach the point of only feeling slightly moist, put them into the dryer for 10-15 minutes with a dryer sheet to soften and eliminate static electricity.
