If you have red scaly skin on your eyebrows or the sides of your nose, you may have a skin condition called seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that is characterized by oily skin, flaking, scaly areas, and reddish patches. Interestingly, the disease is more active during the winter months. The features of the condition can cause substantial embarrassment, as it frequently occurs on the face, but it is not contagious. Common areas of involvement include the scalp, sides of the nose, eyebrows, ear canals, and behind the ears. Less frequently involved are the chest, armpits, and in the groin areas. Most people with seborrheic dermatitis have to deal with dandruff, especially on the back and sides of the scalp. To help you manage the flaking, try using a medicated shampoo and conditioner that contains pyrithione zinc or ketoconazole.
