It is a good idea for men to first soften their beard with a warm washcloth and then apply shaving cream to the area. Using clean sharp blades, pass the razor over your skin only once in the direction of hair growth. Shaving in the other direction may cause dryness, burning and irritation that can lead to ingrown hairs and infection of the hair follicle. Sooth and restore hydration to your just-shaved skin with either a moisturizing gel or lotion, one that provides sun protection is even better. Remember to replace your blades or razors regularly depending on how often you use them. Using a razor with multiple blades not only cuts down on the number of strokes needed, but it also reduces the potential for irritation to occur – razors have now expanded up to five blades!
